The hunt is on to find the UK's next biggest pop star as hundreds of pubs, including two in Oldham, kickstart the ultimate karaoke competition which will see the winner record their own song in a studio.

Proper Pubs is searching for hidden talent across the region by hosting a series of karaoke competitions for its 'Proper Pub Idol' which will be decided in a national finale in front of three judges.

The brewery, which has two pubs in Oldham, has launched the contest with local pub heats taking place until October 27 ahead of the national finale next month in Leeds.

Local pub heats are now underway which will see the best three singers from each week progress to the pub final, with weekly winners taking home a bottle of prosecco.

The pub finals, held from October 28, will then see nine people face off by singing two songs each.

The pub's winner and runner-up of this round will then go to the regional final while the winner will also bag a £50 bar tab.

The regional final will take place from November 4, where pub winners and runners-up will again sing twice.

The regional winner will be gifted a £100 bar tab for their home pub.

Finally, the national finale will take place on November 17 at The Broadway in Leeds where the winner and runner-up from the regional final will have to impress three independent judges.

The ultimate competition champion will win £1,000 in cash as well as a studio recording day to record their very own single.

Meanwhile, the runner-up will win a £500 cash prize and third place will bag £250.
