A cafe, shop and leisure facility is set to open at an Oldham holiday park after a planning application was granted this week.

The facility will open in a building formerly being used as a dwelling and will still contain a two-bedroom apartment on the upper floor, which will be used for managers' housing.

It will be open to serve people staying at Dovestone Holiday Park, which sits on adjoining land to the site.

The ground floor will be the site of the cafe, shop and leisure facility, which includes a lounge and games room.

The building, named Greenfield Farm, is already owned by the managing company of Dovestone Holiday Park, Hollywoak Limited.

Greenfield Farm is a detached, two-storey building accessed by Bank Lane, the primary road serving the main car park at Dovestone Resevoir, a favourite walking spot in Oldham.

The application was submitted in August, and blueprints of the plans show the existing building is made up a large lounge, storage room, study, utility room and kitchen on the ground floor and five bedrooms, two bathrooms and an ensuite on the first floor.

There is space for several vehicles on the land of Greenfield farm, meaning that the addition wouldn't limit the parking that is already existing.

The application says in the supporting statement that the decision to open up a cafe on site for guests was made in direct response to previous customer feedback which expressed a need for such a facility.

Application documents also outlined that there is no need for any external work or extensions which would alter the appearance of the building and that the change of use will utilise existing features of the property, such as the driveway.

The cafe, shop and leisure area will be open 10am to 10pm and the applicant says it will create job opportunities for local people.

The supporting statement said: "The holiday park provides positive tourism-related benefits to the local area and the applicants are continuing to invest additional resources to improve the facilities on offer to enhance the visitor experience."

The application received no objections and was granted on Wednesday, October 9.
