Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton MP, Jim McMahon, has said that the new Employment Rights Bill will provide the biggest upgrade in workers’ rights for a generation.
On Thursday, the government introduced the new bill will look to raise the minimum floor of employment rights, raise living standards across the country and provide better support for those businesses which are engaged in good practices.
Mr McMahon says that this is another example of the work being done by the government to deliver security and better living standards for working people.

The Employment Rights Bill, which was introduced to the House of Commons by the Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, is currently going through the legislative process in Parliament.
Ministers conceded that, if the bill is passed, many of the rights would not come into force until 2026.
Jim McMahon said: “At the general election, I prioritised good jobs for the people of Oldham West, Chadderton and Royton, and Labour promised to introduce workers’ rights reform nationally – and we are delivering.

"Working people’s longing for change over the last 14 years of Tory government has now ended. Our Employment Rights Bill means that, within 100 days of entering government, Labour is legislating for the biggest upgrade in a generation to rights at work.
"Through banning exploitative zero-hour contracts, ending fire and rehire, delivering a genuine living wage, and strengthening statutory sick pay; we will drive up employment standards, provide the security and respect working families deserve, and create the level playing field businesses need to invest and boost growth.
"For all workers, Labour will make work pay.”
