An application has been granted for a new takeaway restaurant to open in Oldham town centre.

The unit the application relates to, 39 King Street, is currently occupied by a vape shop but will become the takeaway within three years, as set out in the conditions of approval.

The application was submitted to Oldham Council on July 8 and was approved on Thursday, October 10.

It also states that work towards the change of use has already started, beginning on July 5.

Plans outline that the takeaway would have two small seating areas, but do not specify the amount of spaces these areas would contain.

The unit consists of a ground floor, which would be used for the restaurant, and a basement, which would be used for food storage and preparation.

A planning application was submitted on behalf of Mr Smko Mahmood of Azam Kitchen & Grill Limited by Mrs Dawn Winterbottom from Plans Drawn.

As is common with planning applications surrounding food businesses, the takeaway must submit plans of how they will manage fumes and odours that may come from the premises.

Application documents include the addition of a metal silver extract flue being fitted for odour reasons.

The applicant had requested opening hours of 10am to 11pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 12am on Saturdays and 10am to 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays, which were granted in the notice of approval.

Neither the interior nor the exterior areas of the building would require changing from the current state, according to the existing and proposed plans submitted.

The application specifies the new use as a 'hot food restaurant and takeaway' with the sale of food and drink for consumption 'mostly on the premises'.

No specification as to what type of food will be served on the premises or when the restaurant will officially open.
