An Oldham man currently in prison after he fled a car crash where he left a woman with serious injuries has had his jail time extended for assault.

Mark Kennedy was jailed for 14 months in July for causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after an accident.

He was imprisoned for causing a crash in Chadderton in February last year, which left a mother-of-three with injuries including fractures in her spine and wrist.

Following the crash on Firwood Park, Kennedy, of Elderwood, Chadderton, exited his car, retrieved his dog from the vehicle and fled the scene on foot.

At the sentencing, the victim's husband labelled Kennedy a "coward", which was echoed by Judge Neil Usher, who said Kennedy's exit from the scene was a "cowardly action".

Now, the 44-year-old will be spending more time in prison for an assault which caused his victim actual bodily harm.

At Teesside Crown Court on Monday (October 7), Kennedy was sentenced for the assault, which he had pleaded guilty to.

He was sentenced to 22 months in prison, which will be added on to the sentence he is currently serving.

Along with the 14-month prison sentence Kennedy received for the crash he caused, he was also banned from driving for three years and seven months.
