Oldham Mountain Rescue Team celebrated its 60th anniversary with team members past and present and their families.
Distinguished guests last weekend included the Vice Lord Lieutenant for Greater Manchester, Sharman Birtles, local hero solo Atlantic owner Frank Rothwell and some founding team members.
It was a great night to bring the Mountain Rescue and extended family together to celebrate this milestone at the White Hart Inn at Lydgate. The team took the opportunity to present some members with long service awards and the King's Coronation medal for service.
Among other long service awards, Katie Johnson received her award for 25 years; Dr Andy Taylor received his long service award for 50 years and the team's president Peter Hyde received his 60 years long service award.
After 60 years, the organisation says there are far too many people to thank in full, but the team thanked Holme Valley Mountain Rescue Team for being on call (and allowing them a rare night off); all the supporters for their continued vital support; but most of all, thanks were given to the team members' families - the people that have to pick up the pieces when the volunteers disappear at odd times of the day.
