A new bar has opened in Royton which residents have described as 'bright', 'modern' and 'demure'.

The new bar, Bono, sits on Market Square in Royton in the former JLR Kitchen Bar.

The bar closed and came under new ownership up until around July this year.

In August, bosses teased a new start and a makeover at the premises, but have kept tight-lipped about any other details such as if the bar will serve food or host live music.

The final look was then revealed late last month which shows the bar has new signage and bright neon pink and blue lights.

Commenting on the refurbishment, customers said they thought the bar looked "bright", "modern" and "very demure, very mindful, very cutesy".

A customer said: "Plants look great. Signs are bright and modern.

"Can't wait to see the inside and the drinks menu."

Another wrote: "Seen all the hard work you've put into revamping the place."

Others said they loved the colours and wished the new owners "good luck" while some queried if the bar was U2-themed.

The site had a tumultuous past as the former ex-director of that company, Logan Galbraith, was jailed for seven years and six months in July 2023 for sexual assault.

Bono Royton officially opened on Thursday, September 26.

Its opening times are 3pm "until late" Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and from 3pm until 3am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Bono Royton has been contacted for comment.
