A man has been put behind bars for voyeurism after recording someone carrying out a private act in Oldham.

Peter Whittle, of no fixed abode, appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Friday, September 20, where he pleaded guilty to voyeurism - recording a private act.

On December 8 last year, the 22-year-old was on a road in Limeside when he recorded another person carrying out a private act with the intention of obtaining sexual gratification when looking at an image of that person doing the act, knowing that the victim did not consent to his recording.

The Sexual Offences Act 2003 defines recording a private act as "operating equipment with the intention of enabling another person to observe" the private act.

Whittle was sentenced at Tameside Magistrates' to four months in prison, due in part to the fact he was deemed to possess a "high risk of serious harm to children".

He was also issued a sexual harm prevention order and was made to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
