The closure of the Barclays branch in Oldham earlier this year brought the number of branches in the borough down to eight in total.
Barclays shut down its Oldham branch back in May, citing the fact that most customers now banked online and less than 200 customers in Oldham still banked at the branch.
It became the latest Oldham bank branch to close in recent years as the number continues to decrease.
The Oldham Times has looked at the bank branches to close down in recent years, and mapped out the ones in the borough which remain open.
Barclays - Closed in May 2024
The site, in a Grade-II listed building on High Street in the town centre, closed on May 24 this year, with the bank saying very few customers still banked at the branch as mentioned.
Barclays still does have a presence in the borough, with a service which provides help with money management, products and transactions that don’t involve cash or cheques available the Positive Steps site on Union Street.
There are no counter or cash services at the location.
Virgin Money - Closed October 2020
The Virgin Money branch on Yorkshire Street has been closed for almost four years.
However, Oldham customers of the bank can still visit a branch in the town centre.
Royal Bank of Scotland - Closed in 2019
The RBS branch on Rochdale Road closed down in 2019 and has been the subject of different planning applications since.
In 2021, an application to convert the building into a bar and house in multiple occupation was approved, however the property was then put up for sale on Rightmove the following year.
However, earlier this year, a proposal was approved to turn the building into seven flats.
