A man has been charged with kidnapping and strangulation after an 87-year-old man was dumped in West Yorkshire.

On Sunday, September 15, the elderly man was forced into a car on Lee Street, Oldham, before being attacked and then thrown out onto a dark road in the Rishworth area of West Yorkshire.

Now, a man from Royton has been charged with four offences in connection with the incident.

Shohad Miah, of Firbank Road, has been charged with kidnap, Section 18 GBH, robbery and intentional strangulation.

The 24-year-old has been remanded into custody ahead of a scheduled appearance at Tameside Magistrates' Court today (Tuesday, September 24).

Greater Manchester Police is still appealing to the public for information as they continue their investigations into the incident.

Detective Inspector Emma Hulston, of Greater Manchester Police's major incident team, previously said the incident was believed to be isolated and that there was "no wider threat to the public".
