A fundraising event is being held at a housing development to raise money for a charity supporting people affected by cancer.

Friday (September 27) will mark the World's Biggest Coffee Morning, an annual event held by Macmillan Cancer Support where people across the UK host and attend coffee mornings to raise money for the charity.

Housing developers Redrow are hosting a coffee morning at a development in Oldham which is coming together.

The Bishop Meadows development, based on Cocker Mill Lane in Cowlishaw, has been taking shape in recent years and will provide more than 200 new homes in the borough.

Homes at the 25-acre site will range from three to five bedrooms, and it will also include five acres of green space and its own orchard.

The event will take place between 10am and midday, with Oldham residents invited to attend for refreshments and cakes in return for a small donation to Macmillan.

Steve Jackson, sales director at Redrow Lancashire, said: “We will be holding an event at our Bishop Meadows development, everyone is welcome, and entry is free.

“The team will be pulling together some terrific treats, all we ask is for in return is a donation back to this amazing charity.”

The first Macmillan Coffee Morning took place in 1990 and saw guests gathering over coffee and donating the cost of their drink to Macmillan in the process.

Macmillan decided to do it again the following year on a national scale and has been running the event ever since.
