A man who committed a racially aggravated assault and racially abused someone else has been put behind bars.

James West, of Henshaw Street, Oldham, appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court on Monday, September 9, where he pleaded guilty to racially aggravated common assault and racially aggravated intentional harassment.

Three days earlier, on September 6, the 41-year-old was in Oldham when he committed the two offences to two separate men.

The offending took place shortly after West had been handed a suspended sentence for a different matter.

West was jailed for six weeks, which was uplifted from four weeks due to the racial nature of the incidents.

He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to each of his victims.
