It's that time of year again, when the leaves are getting that warm tint of orange and we're all tucking into hot chocolates come 6pm and so we've crafted a list of five things to do to make the most of autumn.

Oldham has an abundance of things to offer, from walks in leaf covered forests to visiting picturesque cafes it's a quick and fun task to feel ready for autumn.

Read on to see our top things to do to dive on into the season of pumpkin spice, spooky vibes and roasted marshmallows.

1. A long walk

What else gets you in your autumn feelings more than going for a long nature filled walk?

With Oldham's vast range of nature spots there's every chance to get this one ticked off your list, from the leafy blanket expected in the woods at Tandle Hill to the picturesque scenes around Greenfield and Uppermill.

It's always worth extra points if the walk goes through a forest and a stream.

2. Pumpkin picking

The Narrowgate Farm Shop are once again hosting their Giant Pumpkin Patch events in October.

On October 19, 20, 26 and 27 the Royton farm shop will open up their pumpkin patch for morning sessions from 11am to 1pm and afternoon sessions from 1pm to 3pm.

Kids will get the chance to pick their perfect pumpkin to take home and carve as well as a range of Halloween games.

At £13 per child, with each child getting a pumpkin and a drink included,

3. Attend an organised fireworks display

Fireworks are best enjoyed in the allowed times of the year and at organised events.

Autumn, of course, sees the time old celebration of bonfire night, which Oldham Council will host a brand new Family Firework Evening.

Starting at 4pm, families can enjoy entertainment and crafts until 6pm when the sky will light with the colourful fireworks.

The council said there will also be offers on at various eateries in Oldham meaning people can grab a bite to eat before they head down.

It's also free, so that's a bonus.

4. Halloween trail

Another free council event sees the return of the half term Halloween trail from Saturday October 26 and Sunday November 3.

Taking place through the town centre participants must walk around the trail and fine the hidden spooky items.

Those skilled enough to spot all of the items, are in with a chance of winning some 'spooktacular' prizes.

5. Visit a cosy pub

Oldham has a huge array of pubs and plenty of them are cosy, with traditional venues such as the Black Ladd pub and Fox and Pine offering up a warming food as well as great pints, its a good place to start you autumn activities.

Head on down to your favourite cosy pub, bonus points if they have a fireplace.
