Oldham’s highest performing comprehensive school will welcome prospective students and their families on 24th September when it showcases its high quality teaching and facilities to the local community at an open evening.

E-ACT The Oldham Academy North (known locally as TOAN) is a popular academy that ranks in the top 20% of secondary schools nationally. With a commitment to excellence and ambitious approach, students at The Oldham Academy North consistently perform highly. In this year’s GCSE exams, nearly half of all students (48%) achieved strong passes (grade 5+) in both English and maths, marking a 7% increase from last year’s 41%, and well above the local authority average of 38%.

The academy also saw a rise in top-tier grades (9-7) in subjects like Maths, Science, Chemistry, Physics, and Computing. Additionally, there was significant success in practical and vocational courses, with the academy achieving its best-ever results in Sport (95% Distinction) and Child Development (94%).

The academy’s culture of high expectations is only set to grow thanks to a burgeoning partnership with the world-famous Eton College. The college will be opening a Sixth Form in Oldham soon, and the team at TOAN are working closely with Eton College staff to share knowledge and expertise, and develop the opportunities for TOAN students with the elite college.

As E-ACT The Oldham Academy North prepares to open its doors to year 5 and 6 students and their families, headteacher Jessica Giraud is looking forward to demonstrating its inclusivity as well as its drive and ambition.

“At TOAN, we are incredibly proud of our academic achievements but we are just as eager to show people the warmth of our diverse and inclusive community. We celebrate what each of us brings to the academy and we all work hard to support and understand each other.

“Our core values at TOAN are Trust, Endurance, Autonomy, and Mastery and we celebrate our students who demonstrate those attributes. Our students are given every opportunity to flourish and thrive, and we see the successful outcomes of that every year.

“We’re eager to show Oldham’s young people and their families the exceptional quality of education we have to offer here at E-ACT The Oldham Academy North.”

As well as committed, experienced and driven staff and an ethos of excellence and inclusivity, students at TOAN also enjoy access to first rate facilities, including a new fully fitted gym.

Prospective students and parents are invited to visit the school on 24th September between 4pm and 7pm. There will be a Headteacher presentation, faculty classroom activities and the opportunity to see the first-class education that the academy provides.

The TOAN team, including teachers, SEND and Heads of Years, will be available for a meet and greet and to answer any questions.

Any parents unable to attend are encouraged to contact the academy to organise an alternative visit.
