A schoolgirl from Oldham has been crowned the winner of a tough national competition for her thoughtful design of an England football shirt.

Maia Webb from Shaw entered a national competition set by the FA to create an England football shirt with the theme of mental health and wellbeing.

The 10-year-old fought off thousands of other entries with her impressive design.

The football shirt reads: "Be kind" in colourful letters around the Three Lions logo.

When she was told she had won, the keen Manchester City football fan said she was "shocked".

However, her proud mum, Donna Holden, said Maia is "loving wearing her design and is getting plenty of compliments".

She added: "Friends and family are wanting to buy extra copies of the shirt and Maia would love to see Jack Grealish wearing one."

The tough competition has also handsomely awarded Maia with a £500 voucher for her primary school, to buy sports equipment, and a £150 voucher for herself.

As a rugby player for the girl's team at Higginshaw RLFC, Maia said she's planning on splashing her cash on some new personalised rugby boots and training gear.

She is also planning on buying her young brother, Ellis, a football as he plays for Heyside FC.
