An older man sat in a hole in an effort to prevent telecommunications infrastructure being installed amongst a series of protests in the borough.
On Wednesday (September 11), the man sat in a hole on Foxdenton Lane in Chadderton, where it is understood workers were set to install equipment for IX Wireless, the telecommunications firm responsible for the erection of many poles throughout Oldham.
Many residents have expressed their concern and opposition towards the infrastructure being installed for more than a year, with efforts continuing to halt the installation of the equipment.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed they were called to Foxdenton Lane shortly after 4pm, however, the man was no longer present.
No action has been taken and the case in now closed, GMP confirmed.
Yesterday (September 12), residents voiced their displeasure as workers arrived at sites in the borough to install more infrastructure.
One video on social media showed police were called to Scarr Lane in Shaw, where roughly a dozen residents were protesting against the installation of IX Wireless equipment.
IX Wireless has said in the past that it notifies residents when a pole is set to be installed.
Formal planning permission to erect the poles is not required due to the permitted development rights, which allow the masts to be erected without having to going through the typical planning process as long as they are below a certain height.
IX Wireless has been approached for comment.
