Hotel chains which have premises across Manchester are being accused of cancelling bookings that coincide with the Oasis reunion concerts and reselling them at inflated prices - including a hotel in Oldham.

Greater Manchester's night-time economy adviser, Sacha Lord, has urged Maldron Hotels to "do the right thing" after he received numerous complaints about the issue.

Maldron Hotels operates two hotels in Manchester and as of this morning (Wednesday), they had no rooms available from the start of July next year onwards.

Oasis is playing at Manchester's Heaton Park on July 11, 12, 19 and 20.

In a post on social media platform X, Sacha wrote: “Hey @MaldronHotels. I’m being contacted by several people who booked your hotel for the Oasis concert, to say their rooms have just been cancelled and are now back up for three times the price.

“I’m sure this is a “computer error”… easy to correct. Do the right thing.”

Disgruntled customers have been posting screenshots on X of an email appearing to be from Maldron Hotels, stating that “due to a technical error, you have received a confirmation for a booking that was not successfully made”.

Recipients were told they will be sent a “cancellation request” and asked to “accept promptly”.

Maldron Hotels’ parent company Dalata Hotel Group was approached for a comment.

However, it's not the only chain that is being accused of inflating prices for fans.

Travelodge has rooms at its Oldham Chadderton site, five miles from Heaton Park, which are currently priced from £190 across the dates Oasis will be performing in Manchester.

Rooms at the same hotel a week before Oasis touches down on Manchester soil, on July 4 and 5, are priced between £65 and £87.

Then a week after the gig, a room can be purchased for more than half the price at £73 on Friday, July 25, or £97 on Saturday, July 26, which is almost £100 cheaper than what Oasis fans might be forking out for a night's stay.

A spokesperson for Travelodge said: "At Travelodge, we regularly review our room rates to make sure they are as competitive as possible and we also encourage people to book directly via our website as early as they can and where they can to choose the rate that is right for them."

Meanwhile, Premier Inn, the UK’s biggest hotel brand, only has available rooms in Manchester at the city’s airport on the nights of the Oasis concerts.

Maldron Hotels said in a statement: “Due to a technical error with our booking system on 26 and 27 August, substantially more rooms were booked than were available for the nights of the Oasis concerts on 11, 12, 19 and 20 July 2025 at Maldron Hotel Manchester City and Maldron Hotel Cathedral Quarter.

“As a result, we are unable to honour all bookings made on these dates, and we are actively engaging with customers regarding their bookings.

“The hotels are currently not taking any bookings while we investigate the issue.

“This is not an attempt to resell rooms at inflated prices, rather an overbooking issue due to a technical error with our booking systems.

“Additionally, due to the same technical error, a small number of customers were able to book the rooms at a higher price later that evening.

“We will also be unable to accommodate these bookings.

“We will be honouring all bookings made prior to 26 August.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
