Saddleworth School is celebrating a 'superb' set of GCSE results this year.

The school said it is "delighted" with its Year 11s this year for their excellent results, particularly after a challenging few years amid the pandemic.

Adam Ptolemy told The Oldham Times he was happy with his results, which included a 9 in French, which he will study at A-level alongside music and geography.

Adam said he wasn't sure about how geography is going to go at A-level but that he did "better than I expected" in the subject at GCSE.

He added: "Physics and chemistry were the hardest exams, but I did better than I thought with a 6 and a 7."

Friends, Isobel Fahey and Eleanor Sever, are also "really happy" with their results.

Isobel got 9s in geography and PE and said she was pleasantly surprised at how well she's done in her results.

She added: "When you're in the exams, you're working under stress and you don't realise you've done well.

"You come out of your exam thinking, ahh, I've failed, so the results are really good."

She's going to study English literature, geography and business for her A-levels at the Blue Coat School.

Meanwhile, Eleanor said she's happy with her "range of results", which include an 8 in maths, 5 in English and 7s in science, German and geography.

She said "all the exams were hard" but she'll be starting at Greenhead College soon to study economics, geography and maths.

Despite scoring a 9 in history and 7 in maths, Lorien Brennan Holmes said she felt "disappointed" with her results.

She said: "What’s going on with literature? I wasn’t prepared for that."

Joe Considine said he is "happy" with his results which have "exceeded expectations" - including a 7 in English language, 6 in English literature and an 8 in science.

Joe said he was happy with that, "because I'm bad at it."

Peter Johnson was also happy with his long list of 8s and his 9s in biology and English literature, meaning he'll be going to study maths, chemistry and biology at Greenhead College.

Aspiring journalist, Hattie Rose Siddall, said she's "done alright".

Hattie said: "In English language and literature, I could've done better. I was predicted 9s.

"I should have put the effort it but I fell off towards the end.

"However, I'm going to get my head down in college because I've realised it's not worth messing up."

She'll join Ashton Sixth Form this September to study English language, politics and sociology.

Her friend, Sadie Howard, said she's "done better than I thought" with a strong 7 in English, which means she'll also be going to Ashton to study English literature as well as fine art and textiles.

Sadie added: "I'm really grateful to my teachers, especially my English teachers.

"I'm very happy."

Beth Thomas said she's "feeling good" with all the 8s she's got, especially in RE and drama.

She said: "I thought these exams went terribly but I've got a 6 and an 8, so clearly not, which is insane!"

Beth is studying music, history, psychology and criminology at Oldham Sixth Form College.

Charlie Bailey also said he's "done pretty good" with a 5 in English language, which he wasn’t expecting.

He’s now jetting off to Manchester college to enrol in game design.

Saddleworth School's headteacher, Mike Anderson, said: "I'm absolutely delighted that students' excellent results reflect their hard work, focus and commitment to their studies over the past five years.

"The 2024 results demonstrate a significant rise in attainment across all subject areas and these achievements are a testament to the unwavering dedication of our students and reflect the high standards that we strive for at Saddleworth School.

"We would like to extend our thanks to the entire school community.

"Firstly, to our staff who have worked so tirelessly to ensure that our students have been well prepared and supported throughout their learning journey and secondly to our families who have played a pivotal role in empowering students to be so successful and reach their potential.

"We couldn't be more proud of all of our Year 11 students and are thrilled that they've received grades which reflect their hard work and enable them to move confidently onto the next stages of their education.

"We wish them the very best of luck for the future."
