A man in his 80s has been hospitalised with "seirfollowing a crash involving a HGV in Oldham this afternoon (Wednesday, August 21).

According to police, the 86-year-old man, who was a pedestrian, was involved in the crash with the vehicle not long after midday on Manchester Road, Oldham.

Police also confirmed no arrests had been made in the immediate aftermath at the scene, where the driver of the HGV remained following the crash.

The incident caused a stretch of Manchester Road to be closed for some time as emergency services attended the scene.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police has said: "We are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage, following a serious collision on Manchester Road, Oldham at 12.36pm today (Wednesday 21 August 2024).

"It was reported that a truck has collided with a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, an 86-year-old man, has been taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.

"Anyone with any information which may assist with our enquiries is encouraged to contact our Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 1416 of 21/08/24."

North West Air Ambulance confirmed that they were called to the incident this afternoon.

North West Ambulance Service was approached for comment.
