An Oldham bar and restaurant has submitted a planning application after it opened a new beer garden last month.

The Barclay Pizza and Prosecco on Rochdale Road in Royton is known for serving up pizza and drinks and is now serving more customers by utilising vacant space at the rear of the restaurant.

The empty space sat between a wall and a car park, but The Barclay is now making use of the space by opening Garden at The Barclay, where customers can buy drinks and snacks.

The Barclay opened the garden area on Friday, July 26, with a jukebox DJ on the decking while video footage showed dozens of residents enjoying the new space.

The bar and restaurant revealed the new space will allow it to host live music outdoors every Saturday and a raft of weekend entertainment.

Bosses at the bar said "blood, sweat and tears" had gone into the makeover, which includes multi-level paving, wood panelling and a shipping container that has been painted black and transformed into an outdoor bar.

Now, planning documents have been submitted regarding the outdoor area, but it is unknown if the bar and restaurant is looking for retrospective planning permission.

Planning documents submitted to Oldham Council explain that a black metal shipping container would operate as a bar where customers could purchase their drinks and snacks, with a retractable canopy attached to the unit.

There would then be a seating area, surrounded by a timber fence, along with new grey exterior floor tiles and an emergency exit.

The planning documents were initially put forward in late July, when the outdoor area opened.

The Barclay was approached for comment.
