An Oldham college has seen an 'all-time high' number of students gain acceptance to university.
The principal at Oldham Sixth Form College has said she is 'immensely proud' of students' after they received a record number of university acceptances.
The college achieved a 100 per cent pass rate in the majority of courses with 1,800 A* and A grades or equivalent.
Friends Iris Iftikhar and Aysha Iqbal, both 18 years old, will be going on to study medicine.
Iris achieved an A* in biology, A in maths and A in chemistry and is going to attend University College London.
She said: “Achieving these grades has been a dream for so long. I feel excited, proud and relieved.”
With her course starting next month, she added: “I’ve got my accommodation so everything is sorted, I’m just waiting to start now.”
Aysha is also studying medicine, but at the University of Liverpool, after gaining four A*s in biology, psychology, chemistry and Italian.
She said: “I’m very excited to start university.
“Tonight, I am going out with my family and we’re going to be celebrating.”
The college also saw high grades from Mykhailo Tolstikhin, who overcame challenges after leaving his home country of Ukraine in April 2022 due to Russia’s invasion.
Hhis friend Joshua Tindall, who has accepted his offer to the University of Cambridge after achieving four A*s in maths, further maths, physics and electronics and has been accepted into the engineering degree.
Joshua said: "The course gives me the opportunity to explore different fields, it's a four-year course and I'll gain a masters in engineering, but after that I'm not too sure.
"I want to do something big, something cutting edge."
Suzannah Reeves, Principal of the Sixth Form College said: “As always we are delighted with the achievements of our students.
“We are proud to say that, in spite of significant Covid interruptions throughout years 9 and 10, our students have done a fantastic job.
“I am immensely proud of the dedication of students and staff to give Oldham Sixth Form College the best results since the Covid pandemic.”
