Transport for Greater Manchester has given an update on the Oldham and Rochdale tram line which has been partially closed since a landslip caused the line to shift
It has now confirmed that from Monday (August 19), trams will resume running between Oldham Mumps and Rochdale Town Centre as normal after they were suspended over a month ago.
A landslip affected the line and meant that around 200m of track was shifted and also affected the overhead lines, meaning it was no longer safe for the trams to travel over that stretch of track.
The trams were first suspended on July 10, and engineers have now completed shifting the affected track back into position.
The work saw engineers use more than 100 tonnes of ballast and repair the overhead poles.
The current repairs are temporary, and Metrolink has said that they will carry out further work to make the track more resilient within the next one to two years.
Pete Sommers TfGM's Director for Metrolink, said: "The safety of our customers and staff is our highest priority and this was a serious landslip which affected the tracks and overhead line poles.
"The decision to suspend services was not taken lightly but the extent of the movement meant it was no longer safe to operate trams.
"Thanks to the round-the-clock efforts of our Metrolink engineers and groundwork specialists' repairs are now close to completion with test trams planned to operate over the coming days in advance of opening for start of service on Monday morning."
