A large emergency service response was seen today (August 13) after reports of a man falling from a height at a Saddleworth quarry.
Greater Manchester Police urged residents to avoid the area around Ladcastle Road and Den Lane in Uppermill as several emergency services were attending to an incident.
A spokesperson for the police force said: "At around 2.30pm today, officers responded to reports regarding concerns for the welfare of a man at a quarry on Den Lane.
"Officers are currently in attendance with colleagues from other emergency services."
According to North West Ambulance Service, a man in his 80s had fallen at Moorgate Quarry.
The ambulance service confirmed they were also in attendance, with a spokesperson saying: "A man in his 80s is being taken to hospital after what looks to be a fall from height.
"We don't currently know how the fall happened."
Google Maps terrain views of the area show that there is a steep drop of up to 200m from Ladcastle Road to Den Lane, with rail tracks in between the two.
The ambulance response vehicle was accompanied by a hazardous areas response team, Mountain Rescue, North West Air Ambulance Service and an operational commander.
North West Air Ambulance Charity said: "We can confirm that the North West Air Ambulance Charity was called to an incident in Oldham on the 13th of August, H75 responded.
"Unfortunately, that's the only information we have at this time."
The man was taken to hospital, but his condition is not currently known.
