Video footage in an Oldham park appears to show 'machete' wielding motorbike riders.

The worrying footage was posted to social media with the incident occurring in Coalshaw Green Park last Thursday evening (August 1).

In the footage, four people are riding two motorbikes, one black bike and one red, with two people on each bike.

One runs away from the camera toward the motorbikes and gets on the black bike as the one on the front of the other bike appears to pass a machete to the passenger behind him.

Neither of the bikes look to have registration plates attached and three of the riders are masked, with the other wearing a helmet.

The group then ride the bikes up some steps and disappear from the camera's view.

The footage comes just a month after The Oldham Times reported on similar antisocial behaviour on motorbikes around the borough, including speeding through playing Clayton Playing Fields during a children's football practice, running red lights and riding on pavements and riding on a bowling green.

It also follows The Oldham Times reporting that Oldham was one of the worst affected boroughs in Greater Manchester and that Greater Manchester Police were cracking down on the activities and had compiled a list hotspots to target the issue.

GMP said they did not receive any reports of the incident in the video however, in response to the wider issues of anti-social behaviour on motorbikes, Superintendent John-Paul Ruffle from GMP's Prevention Branch said: “We understand the majority of motorbike, e-bike and quadbike riders, use their vehicles in a safe and considerate manner and abide by the law.

"But, sadly, there are those that don’t and this poses a serious risk to not only themselves, but other road users also.

"While some people may use off-road bikes in the way they were intended, others use them to ruin parks, playing fields and flagrantly violate traffic laws - which is exactly what this operation is intending to prevent.

“We will use every tool at our disposal, which includes specialist GMP resources to crackdown on this type of crime. I would also like to encourage residents to report incidents to us so we can take appropriate action.

“If you know who is using motorcycles anti-socially or to commit crime, let us know.

"Report online or call Greater Manchester Police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

“We also want to know where these bikes are being stored. Please reach out if you have any information that will help us in our quest to reduce motorcycle-related crime."
