A popular pub in Oldham town centre which has several accolades under its belt has lost its regional 'pub of the year' crown.

The Fox and Pine pub on Greaves Street has been run by Chris and Michelle Riley for the past four years.

Since then, the alehouse has been dubbed the best of the borough - and as of last year, the Greater Manchester region.

The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), which was first launched in 1971 as a campaign for the 'revitalisation of real ale', issues prestigious awards to the places considered the "very best" in the pub, club, beer and cider scene from across England, Wales and Scotland.

As well as having national and regional CAMRA titles up for grabs, localised branches also celebrate the best places for a pint.

Fox and Pine has been considered CAMRA Rochdale, Oldham and Bury's 'pub of the year' for the past three years on the bounce.

It was then crowned the regional Greater Manchester 'pub of the year' in 2023, meaning it was entered into the national competition but lost out on the top trophy to The Tamworth Tap.

Now, CAMRA has announced the Greater Manchester winner and runner-up for this year which reveals the pub has lost its winning streak.

The Northumberland Arms in Marple Bridge snatched the coveted regional title for 2024, but the Fox and Pine do get an honorary mention as the region's second-best as a runner-up.

Not all is lost in Oldham though as Dobcross Band Social Club on Platt Lane won CAMRA's Greater Manchester 'club of the year' 2024 and for the third year in a row.

Meanwhile, 'cider pub of the year' 2024 went to the Petersgate Tap in Stockport.
