A major road is open again after more than a month of closure due to a sinkhole opening up.
Park Road, near Alexandra Park, has opened once again after over a month of repair work after a sinkhole opened on June 27.
The sinkhole was caused due to a collapsed sewer pipe and was being repaired by United Utilities.
The assessments and repairs began as soon as the sinkhole opened but have stretched on for over a month with the road remaining closed along a significant portion for the period.
The sinkhole's size developed quickly, going from a subsidence with a cracked surface to a large hole with crumbling debris inside within less than a day.
United Utilities said the works 'proved to be complex, so the work has taken longer to complete than was first anticipated' last week (July 30) when asked the status of the repairs.
Park Road is a major road into the town centre as well as the main route into Alexandra Park.
With the recent spells of warm weather, the road closure will have made it particularly difficult for people to access the beauty spot and make use of the summer events held there, such as Summer Beach.
Residents can now feel the relief that the road is opened up again as of around 4pm today (July 7).
