Fans of the hit show House of The Dragon have praised Oldham actress Olivia Cooke after the season finale aired overnight.

House of the Dragon's season two finale has hit streaming platforms bringing the ever-exciting world of Westeros to screens for the final time until season three.

Oldham actress, Olivia Cooke, stars as one of the show's many complex characters, Queen Alicent Hightower.

Fans have taken to social media to praise Cooke's acting prowess and even demand she be given a top award, such as an Emmy, for her performance in the latest season.

One fan said: "All I'll say about House of the Dragon's finale is that I need HBO's awards team to stop playing these Pollyanna games and get Emmy nominations for Emma D'Arcy and Olivia Cooke because they are turning in franchise-best performances here."

Another added: "Olivia Cooke better receive an Emmy for her performance as Alicent this season."

D'Arcy stars alongside Cooke as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, childhood best friend turned enemy of Alicent Hightower.

The season saw Alicent battle with Rhaenyra and ultimately realise how she has misunderstood her late husband, King Viserys', wishes for the succession of the throne and accidentally stolen Rhaenyra's crown.

One fan referenced the final scene between the two powerful characters saying: "Olivia Cooke is such a powerful actress because her eyes and emotions are so expressive and melancholic.

"I literally forget how mad I am at Alicent for treating Rhaenyra [badly]..."

The biggest theme in the show is where people's allegiances lie- with team green or team black.

The question arose after the Hightowers, whose house colour is green, usurped the throne of Westeros from the named heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The debate is especially heated amongst fans and most are steadfast in their opinions on the matter, however, some have said Cooke's character made them sway on occasion.

One person said "Appreciation post for Olivia Cooke, I loved her overall performance, perfect in the role of Alicent Hightower.

"She often managed to question my loyalty to Team Black."
