Three people were taken to hospital after a crash in Ashton today, Friday.

Newmarket Road was closed from 5am till around 10am following the crash.

Three people were injured and significant damage was caused to the front of a car.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were in attendance and cordoned off a stretch of the road from Taunton Place to Taunton Hall Close.

The individuals injured were treated at the scene and taken to hospitals, with one woman being taken to Salford Royal Hospital after sustaining a head injury and two others being taken to Tameside Hospital. 

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 4.45am following a road traffic collision. 

"We are unsure whether there was one or two vehicles involved however we treated three patients, one female with a head injury was taken to Salford Royal, and two patients were taken to Tameside Hospital with injuries not believed to be major trauma."

GMP have also been approached for comment.

During the road closure, two bus routes were diverted with the 230 travelling through Lord Sheldon Way and Market Street in both directions and the 231 using the Heartshead Estate then using Oldham Road, Lord Sheldon Way, Market Street to the turning circle Lumb Lane in both directions.
