All of these cases involving people from Oldham have been before the magistrates in the last fortnight.

An Oldham woman who racially abused a police officer has been sentenced.

Chantelle Taylor, of Thames Street, Oldham, racially abused the officer in Manchester on September 3 last year.

In April, the 26-year-old pleaded guilty to racially aggravated intentional harassment and was sentenced at Tameside Magistrates' Court on July 26.

Taylor was handed a community order, requiring her to attend 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of £180 and £50 in compensation to the officer. bring her total costs to £230.

A man who assaulted a police officer has avoided being jailed.

Christian Astley, of Cattlin Way, Oldham, assaulted the officer in Oldham on July 24 as he was acting in the exercise of his functions as an emergency worker.

The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker on July 26 at Tameside Magistrates' Court, where he was sentenced.

Astley was given 10 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, on the grounds that he suffers from mental health issues and has been the subject of "cuckooing", the practice where people take over a person's home to facilitate exploitation.

He was also ordered to pay £50 in compensation to the officer.

And in another case, Lewis Wood, of Littlemoor Lane, Oldham, was issued with a restraining order earlier this year which prevented him from approaching or contacting a woman.

However, on July 20, the 27-year-old approached her and swore at her.

At Stockport Magistrates' Court on July 23, Wood pleaded guilty to breaching a restraining order and was sentenced.

He was jailed for a total period of 18 weeks.
