From a rapist to someone who left a woman for dead after a crash, here are some dangerous criminals in Oldham who were locked up in July.

Teenage rapist "completely broke" woman

A teenager kidnapped and raped a woman at knifepoint during a horrific incident in Oldham.

Arselaan Nawaz, 17, confronted the victim in the car park of a gym in November last year, driving her car with her in the back to a location where he then raped her, which she said in a statement read out in court "completely broke" her.

He stole her phone and was caught when he put his sim card in the woman's phone when he returned home, and denied the rape and threatening to kill the woman.

However, Nawaz was convicted following a trial and was able to be identified despite being under 18 years of age after a judge lifted his right to anonymity.

He sentenced Nawaz to 10 years in prison, two thirds of which he will serve in prison, plus another four years of licence once he is released, and was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Man caught trying to meet teenage boy

A man who travelled to Oldham to meet who he believed to be a 14-year-old boy, only to find out he was snared by a decoy social media account, has been jailed.

Muhammad Khan, who is from Pakistan, was in the UK on a student visa and agreed to meet up with who he thought was a teenage boy after chatting online.

When the 28-year-old arrived at the scene, he was confronted by a group of people and accepted he was there to meet an underage child.

At Minshull Street Crown Court on July 11, Khan was sentenced to 14 months in prison for attempting to meet a boy under the age of 16 following grooming.

"Coward" left woman with broken spine after crash

A "coward" who left a woman with a broken spine following a crash, which he fled the scene from, has been jailed.

Mark Kennedy was driving at high speed in Chadderton last year when he caused the crash, leaving the woman with significant injuries.

The 43-year-old fled the scene, with the victim saying in a statement read out in court: "He left me for dead."

Kennedy was jailed for 14 months and disqualified from driving for three years and seven months.
