Oldham's Park Road is still closed after over a month after a sinkhole opened up in late June.

A sinkhole appeared on June 27 after a United Utilities sewer pipe collapsed under the roads surface.

The hole quickly developed and increased in size, going from a mild subsidence with a crack to a gaping hole within less than a day.

The road was closed at the time for safety reasons and to allow for repairs.

Now, over a month later, the road remains closed, creating yet more disruption to Oldham's transport systems.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: “We’re carrying out essential repair works in Park Road.

"These have proved to be complex, so the work has taken longer to complete than was first anticipated.

"We are making good progress and we expect the work to be completed by 7 August.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank people in the area for their ongoing patience and enabling us to complete these works safely."

Park Road is one of the main access points for Alexandra Park, as the site of the main entrance, which means now that the summer holidays are in swing the disruption will mean that many will struggle to access the park.
