A defibrillator is set to be installed outside Boundary Park in memory of a devoted Oldham Athletic fan.

John "Mouse" Kennedy died at the age of 66 earlier this month and was known as a dedicated Latics fan by his friends and family.

Co-founder of the Oldham Athletic Veterans and Armed Forces Supporters group, Steve Johnson, said Mouse was a huge supporter of the group despite not being a veteran himself.

Steve said: "Mouse was always a big supporter of what we were trying to do.

"He was always buying badges and stickers for his family and was always very supportive even though he wasn't a veteran."

Following Mouse's death, his family decided that donations made to them would be split between a family charity and the Latics Veterans Supporters group.

Steve said: "Receiving that news was very humbling, it floored me to be honest."

Inspired by a meeting with campaigners pushing for more defibrillators, Steve and the supporters group decided to use the funds along with other money raised from a GoFundMe page to go towards installing a defibrillator outside Boundary Park.

Steve said that the defibrillator will benefit both Oldham Athletic and Oldham RLFC supporters, with 24 hour access to the defibrillator being available.

Now, the live-saving device has been ordered and once installed, Steve said they will look to put a plaque honouring Mouse above it.

A wake for Mouse was held in the Broadway Suite at Boundary Park on Tuesday, July 23, with many of the hundreds of people in attendance wearing Latics shirts and scarves as they remembered Mouse.

On top of that, Mouse's grandson was recently announced as one of the winners in a raffle held by the Veterans Supporters group for children to be mascots during the upcoming season.

The group are still looking for donations as they look to purchase a Bleed Control Kit, a portable defibrillator to equip the Community Trust's Supporters Over 50s and 30s football teams, donations depending, another defibrillator into the Rochdale Road end where Mouse would watch the Latics.
