A proposal to develop a nine-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO) at an Oldham property has been approved.

The application relates to a property on Belgrave Road, near Alexandra Park, and will see two dormers added onto the house.

Each of the bedrooms will have an en-suite facility and there will be two kitchen and dining facilities - one in the basement, along with a lounge area, and one on the first floor.

The ground floor will have four bedrooms while there would be a further two on the first floor along with the second kitchen.

The second floor would have the final three bedrooms.

A handful of residents raised concerns by leaving comments online in response to the application, highlighting issues such as parking, potential overlooking and loss of light.

Each of the residents said there was not enough parking spaces for a large influx of cars on the road, however an Oldham Council planning officer said in an application report that they did not believe many of the residents would have their own cars.

The officer added that they felt car ownership is "usually very low" for residents of these type of properties.

Meanwhile, the officer said the installation of the dormers would not lead to any overlooking of private areas and would not be big enough to cause any loss of light.

The officer also felt the proposal "would not lead to any significant adverse impact on the character of the area".

The application originally sought to make the property a 10-bedroom house, however concerns were raised over the possibility of bedrooms being in the basement.

The plans were formally approved on Wednesday, July 17.
