More than £13,000 has been raised for a father of four from Oldham who is in a critical condition following an attack after watching England in the Euros final.

Ray Logan, 40, was watching Sunday night's football match in Oldham town centre before he was attacked in what is said to be an 'unprovoked' assault.

The father-of-four has been left in a critical condition after sustaining a serious head injury during the incident.

The attack took place at around 4.15am on Monday July 15, outside of The Bank Pub in Oldham and was carried out by a man, according to Greater Manchester Police.

An appeal for witnesses was launched by Greater Manchester Police on the evening of Tuesday July 16.

A friend of the Logan family, Natalie Bostock, has now set up a Go Fund Me to help them, which currently has raised £13,370.

The statement on the Go Fund Me said: "As some people may be aware Ray was attacked on the 14th July after the football.

"Sadly the attack caused bleeding on his brain and he is now in a medically induced coma following two emergency surgeries on his brain.

"At this time nobody is sure about the full extent of his injuries or what recovery will look like and how long this is going to take, what we do know is that it is going to be a long hard road ahead of him, his wife and children.

"Unfortunately there will still be bills to pay during this sad time.

"Any support that anybody can give to help whilst Ray is recovering is greatly appreciated."

At the time of the attack, Detective Inspector Andy Day, of our Oldham District, said: “This is a serious incident in which the victim of this assault remains in a critical condition in hospital.

“We are now appealing for people to come forward and help our investigation – no piece of information is too small."

A social media post appealing for donations said: "As some of you are aware Ray is in a critical condition in hospital Ray has two amazing teenage sons, and two beautiful young daughters who absolutely adore their daddy.

"Understandably this is a difficult and worrying time for everybody and I please urge people to be mindful of the conversations they may be having around children.

"Unfortunately the direct debits don't come to a halt, so if you can spare a couple of quid to help take the financial stress away anything will be greatly appreciated."

Also helping to drive funds is a benefit organised by Mr Logan's wider family and friends which will be held from 2pm on August 10 at St Anne's Rugby Club.

Included in the benefit is a raffle which has had prizes donated including a car, beauty treatments and bingo tables.
