There were "scenes of violence" in the Audenshaw area of Tameside in the early hours when a large group of youths were reportedly fighting and causing damage to several cars in the area.

At around 12am today (Sunday, July 14), police were called to reports of anti-social behaviour linked to a property on Droylsden Road.

Officers were told the group were gathered at the house and caused a disturbance through fighting.

It is also believed the group caused criminal damage to a number of cars in the area.

No injuries were reported and police officers dispersed the group and arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of a public order offence.

He remains in custody.

A dispersal order has also been put in place in the area under Section 35 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act which will end at 12.15am tomorrow (Monday, July 16).

Chief Inspector Dave Henthorne said: “This was an alarming incident for many residents in the area.

"The scenes of violence, disorder and criminal damage last night are totally unacceptable and it is very fortunate that no one was seriously hurt.

"Violence has no place on our streets or in our communities and we are determined to hold those responsible to account.

“Officers will remain in the area for reassurance and if you have any concerns or information to share, I would urge you to speak with them.

“If you witnessed this incident, or have relevant footage – including CCTV, mobile or dashcam – you should report it by emailing TamesideSouth@gmp.police.uk or calling 101 quoting incident number 3628 of 13/7/24.”
