All of these cases involving people from Oldham or crimes committed in the town have been before the magistrates or crown courts in recent weeks.

A man who entered Royal Oldham Hospital with a knife and stole more than £100 worth of goods from there has been jailed.

William Fogg, of Unsworth Way, Oldham, entered the hospital while carrying a flick knife on Thursday, July 4.

Whilst there, the 32-year-old stole a water bottle and medical milkshakes worth a total of £105.

At Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, July 9, Fogg pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon and theft and was sentenced.

He was jailed for six months, due in part to his serious criminal record, and was ordered to forfeit the knife for it to be destroyed.

A man who was drink driving at nearly three times the legal limit has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

Jacob Cunliffe, of Wardle Brook Avenue, Tameside, was driving on Manchester Road in Oldham on August 26 last year when he was found to have 95 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath in his system.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms per 100 millilitres, putting the 27-year-old nearly three times the limit.

Cunliffe appeared at Tameside Magistrates' Court on July 9 having previously pleaded guilty to drink driving.

He was banned from getting behind the wheel for 36 months and was given a community order requiring him to attend 25 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

Cunliffe was also made to pay a fine of £300, a victim surcharge of £114 and court costs of £200, bringing his total costs to £614.

A man has been made to pay more than £2,500 for committing an assault.

Elliot Stone, of Moreton Street, Chadderton, assaulted his victim in Bury on April 8 last year and denied the charge of assault by beating.

On Monday, July 8, at Tameside Magistrates' Court, the 52-year-old was found guilty of the assault and was sentenced.

Stone was made to pay a fine of £1,269, a victim surcharge of £508, court costs of £625 and compensation of £200 to his victim, putting his total costs at £2,602.
