The following planning applications relate to some of the biggest development stories in Oldham over the past few weeks.
Gravestone showroom may have to tear down extension
A gravestone showroom business could be forced to tear down an extension to its site after retrospective planning action was rejected.
Everlasting Memorials, based on Manchester Road, Werneth, developed a two-storey extension at the rear of its shop which is currently in use as a funeral parlour associated with the headstone shop.
However, the extension could now be torn down after plans to retain it were turned down by the council's planning body on the grounds of an inadequate coal mining risk assessment being submitted.
The business, based at the former Smut Inn pub, was told there were no other issues with the extension except for the "unacceptable" coal mining risk assessment report.
New takeaway coming at site of food store
A new takeaway is set to be opened at the site of a food shop after plans were given the green light.
An application was submitted back in May to convert the double-fronted Al-Emaan Food Store on Featherstall Road North into a hot food takeaway in one unit and a retail shop in the other unit.
Now, the proposal can go ahead after plans were approved, with the takeaway set to be open between midday and midnight seven days a week.
Floor plans show that the current site has an unused area, which would become the home of the takeaway, with some seating set to be available at the unit for diners to eat in.
New house to be built on vacant land
Plans have been approved to build a new home on a vacant plot of land in a residential area, planning documents have shown.
In June last year, a proposal was submitted to develop a new house on a patch of land on Wimpole Street, Higginshaw.
The plot of land was previously occupied by garages but is now vacant, however, the approval of the planning application will see a new four-bedroom detached dwelling built on the site.
The house will be two storeys high and will provide two parking spaces, with a garden area as well.
