A residential street in Oldham has been closed due to subsidence in the centre of the road.

Thompson Lane in Chadderton has been sealed off today, Wednesday, as Oldham Council staff work on the situation at the scene.

Temporary diversions are in place in the area, with no vehicles able to travel down the road while investigations into the source of the subsidence are carried out.

According to a council spokesperson, the issue is believed to stem from a collapsed United Utilities asset, however a spokesperson for the water company said on Thursday (July 11) the issue was not related to one of their assets.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: "We are aware of the road closure on Thompson Lane in Chadderton and our team is on the way to the site to carry out investigations."

On Thursday (July 11), A United Utilities spokesperson said their teams had visited the site to investigate and confirmed it was not related to their assets.
