After almost five years and demand from voters for the Conservative government to call a General Election, Thursday, July 4 saw the people of the UK finally get to cast their vote for their MPs and a new government.
In Oldham, both constituencies were held by Labour, who won the General Election by a landslide.
In Oldham East and Saddleworth, Debbie Abrahams was re-elected for a fifth time, having served since 2011.
Abrahams won the vote of the constituents with 14,091 votes, a majority of more than 6,000.
She said: “What I found when I was knocking on the thousands of doors that I have knocked on over the last six weeks or so was that people really did want a change, they wanted to be presented with something that would give them hope.
“Hope for a different, a better, a fairer life for themselves, for their families and I really do want to promise to everybody that voted for me.
"First of all thank you so much for investing in me your trust and your confidence in my being able to represent you in parliament.”
Meanwhile, in Oldham West, Royton and Chadderton, Jim McMahon held onto his seat.
Speaking after his victory was confirmed, Mr McMahon said: “It’s been a really tough campaign over six weeks, we’ve been out on so many different doors, thousands in fact, and had so many conversations.
“After 14 years now of frankly managed decline, it’s our chance to rebuild from the foundations up and I was determined to make sure with a Labour government in Westminster in Parliament, that Oldham had a seat around the table, and that’s what we’ve done today.”
Mr McMahon received 13,232 votes, giving him a majority of around 6,000 votes.
Elsewhere, it was a positive night for Reform UK in Oldham, who finished second and third in each constituency, respectively.
In Oldham East and Saddleworth, Jacob Barden finished second, securing 7,734 votes, while in Oldham West, Royton and Chadderton, David Silbiger came third with 6,848 votes.
Neither of the Reform candidates were present at the count.

Coming second in Oldham West was independent candidate Zaffar Iqbal, whose main policy point centred on the Gaza conflict.
Third in Oldham East and Saddleworth was Tom Fish, of the Conservative Party, with 6,838 votes.
He said: “I saw the same polls as everyone else, we’ve been seeing those for a period of time and so I’m not coming here today thinking we were going to do really well but locally, it’s a different story.
“We could so easily have rolled over in a seat no one expected us to win, and we didn’t win but we were out every single day, with an amazing team of volunteers and people supporting me and up for the fight.
“We wanted to provide a change, unfortunately we aren’t going to be able to do that but as I said, I’ll be back.”
