Despite cloudy weather conditions and regular showers over the weekend, the annual Wellifest Musical Festival and Saddleworth Show welcomed thousands of visitors.

Both events are organised by the local Rotary Clubs of Saddleworth and Oldham Metro with profits used to support charitable causes throughout the coming 12 months by the Rotary Clubs.

On Saturday, around 3,000 people enjoyed a range of music from reggae to rock at the Wellifest held at the Well-i-Hole Campsite, Greenfield, from early afternoon until dusk.

It is a family-friendly event and a significant number of ticket sales were the popular family ticket.

And this year, the Saddleworth Show on Sunday, run at the same venue, celebrated its 50th Anniversary and offered free entry.

Visitors were able to enjoy a range of attractions including the popular dinosaurs, Punch and Judy and dog show with other attractions including a children’s play area.

And the show welcomed the Mayor of Oldham Councillor Dr Zahid Chauhan OBE and chair of Saddleworth Parish Council, Councillor Barbara Beeley.

The mayor said: ”It was great to attend the Saddleworth Summer Show.

"The event brought local people together for fun and enjoyment while raising funds for charities and local Rotary projects.

"The show offered a showcase for local businesses, craft producers and charities. Thank you for inviting me. It was a fantastic experience to be part of such a wonderful community event.”

Speaking on behalf of the organisers, Clint Elliott and Frank Bolger, thanked the site owners, volunteers from Rotary members themselves to many local companies, groups and individuals who either sponsor the events or offer support in other ways.

They added: “Finally the success of the weekend depends on people coming in large numbers and enjoying the entertainment and attractions knowing that they are helping to support the charitable aims of the Rotary locally.”
