An Oldham father died "unexpectedly and suddenly" whilst on holiday in Tenerife, an inquest has heard.
Gareth Moores, who was born and raised in Oldham, was 48 when he died while on a family holiday on the Spanish island on November 12, 2022.
At Rochdale Coroners' Court yesterday (Tuesday, July 2), an inquest was held into his death by assistant coroner Michael Salt.
The court heard that Mr Moores, who lived in Royton, was a butcher, a career which had followed 20 years of running a sandwich shop.
A keen cricket and football player in his youth, Mr Moores had also spent a period working for Dr Kershaw's Hospice before his death.
On November 12, 2022, Mr Moores was midway through a holiday in Tenerifre with his wife, Colette, and son, when in the early hours he returned to his hotel room.
The court heard that he made a "strange" noise, which caused his wife to think he was choking.
Emergency calls were made and a medical team attended the scene, making attempts to save Mr Moores, with a statement from his wife reading: "They tried everything they could to help him."
Despite the efforts to resuscitate him, including the use of a defibrillator, Mr Moores was pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination was carried out both in Tenerife and by pathologist Dr Abdul Ganjifrockwala at Royal Oldham Hospital, both of which said Mr Moores died of natural causes.
Dr Ganjifrockwala gave the cause of death as ischemic heart disease, which sees reduced blood flow to the heart as a result of coronary artery disease, a condition that occurs when coronary arteries narrow.
The pathologist also said obesity was a contributory factor to the death.
Mr Salt accepted Dr Ganjifrockwala's cause of death and ruled that Mr Moores died due to natural causes.
He said that Mr Moores had died "unexpectedly and suddenly" and offered his condolences to the family.
