An Oldham primary school has received a shining Ofsted report after the latest inspection.

His Majesties Inspector, Ruth Moran, was the lead inspector on the report and gave the school glowing feedback.

The report mentioned many aspects of school life at Westwood Academy, noting that all pupils had access to a “deep body of knowledge in a range of subjects”, along with a “peaceful yet purposeful atmosphere that enables pupils to focus on their learning”.

Sarah Wimperis, Principal of Westwood Academy said: “The whole school community was delighted to receive this report.

"We are exceptionally proud of our children at Westwood, they amaze us every day with their thirst for knowledge, high expectations of themselves and each other and their determination to make every school day count.”

The report went on to say the school had a "highly ambitious and well ordered" curriculum and praised the community links they had built.

Ms Moran praised the schools diversity saying: "Pupils are immensely proud of their diverse school community."

She went on to say: "The school provides a vast array of activities for pupils to learn beyond the academic curriculum.

"Trips and visits bring learning to life- For example, pupils benefit from science workshops and visits to museums and art galleries.

"Each year, pupils join with other schools in the trust to perform a Shakespeare play together."

Westwood Academy is part of The Harmony Trust, which is based in Oldham and Derby.

The school maintained it's 'good' rating in it's last inspection, which was carried out last year.

Antony Hughes, CEO of The Harmony Trust, added: "This report is a fitting tribute to the exceptional work undertaken by the entire school community at Westwood.

"Our teaching team work tirelessly in support of pupils, and we were particularly pleased to see their “skilled” and “expert” teaching highlighted for praise by inspectors.

"We were also pleased to see our “wealth of high-quality professional development opportunities’ for teachers referenced as a particular strength; CPD remains a crucial element of The Harmony Trust’s Great Place 2 Learn strategy."
