The following planning applications relate to some of the biggest development stories in Oldham over the past fortnight.

House surrounded by HMO to become HMO

Plans to turn a terraced house into an eight-bed house in multiple occupation (HMO), which already sits between two HMOs, have been given the go-ahead.

A proposal was submitted to convert the three-storey brick Victorian terraced property on Pole Lane in Failsworth into a HMO with a single-storey extension.

The two adjacent properties on either side are also in use as HMOs, providing accommodation for up to 10 and seven people respectively.

Now, the property in question will follow suit, providing eight bedrooms in total.

New homes to replace vacant buildings

A proposal to demolish two vacant buildings and replace them with a pair of new homes have been approved.

The existing buildings on Grafton Street, Moorside, have been described as being in a "poor condition" and required "extensive repair" or to be completely rebuilt.

Now, permission has been granted to build two new homes designed for families at the site.

The properties will each have three bedrooms, car parking spots and a garden.

Site of former restaurant to be redeveloped

A commercial space in Oldham town centre which has been the home of a restaurant and furniture shop will be separated into four different units after plans were approved.

The unit on Yorkshire Street was previously occupied by Istanbul Restaurant and has been vacant for some time, though was the home of by Sofa Boys last year.

The empty building was made available for rent at the end of last year, but now a proposal to divide the space into four units has been given the green light.

According to proposed plans for the ground floor, the four separate spaces will be made up of a retail unit, a butcher's shop, a mini market and a restaurant.
