All of these cases involving people from Oldham have been before the magistrates in the last fortnight.

A man who broke into a tiles shop and stole more than £1,000 worth of goods has avoided jail.

Danny Cawley, of Huddersfield Road, Oldham, broke into the Topps Tiles shop and entered as a trespasser on Higginshaw Lane in Royton on April 26.

The 35-year-old stole £1,225.85 worth of goods from the shop but was eventually arrested.

On Tuesday, June 25 at Tameside Magistrates' Court, Cawley pleaded guilty to burglary and was sentenced.

He was given four months in prison, suspended for 16 months, due to there being a "realistic prospect of rehabilitation" in the community.

Cawley was also ordered to pay £1,225.85 in compensation to Topps Tiles.

A man who assaulted two people has managed to avoid prison.

Aaron Hurst, of Brooks Drive, Failsworth, assaulted a woman and a man, causing the latter actual bodily harm, during an unprovoked attack in Failsworth on December 9 last year.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to both assault by beating and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and was sentenced at Tameside Magistrates' Court on June 21.

Hurst was sentenced to 24 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months and was issued a restraining order, prohibiting him from both of his victims either directly or indirectly for a year.

He was also ordered to attend 15 days of rehabilitation activity requirement and must pay £200 in compensation to his victims and £85 in court costs.

A man has been banned from getting behind the wheel after driving whilst more than twice over the legal drink driving limit.

Louis Nyathi, of Flora Street, Oldham, was driving on Denton Lane in Oldham on April 21 when he was found to have 91 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millitlitres of breath in his system.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms, putting Nyathi more than twice over the limit.

The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to drink driving on May 9 and was sentenced at Tameside Magistrates' Court on June 24.

He was disqualified from driving for 36 months and was ordered to attend 10 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also made to pay a fine of £250, a victim surcharge of £114 and court costs of £85, bringing his total costs to £449.
