Oldham Council have issued an update regarding the progress of the Spindles Town Square redevelopment scheme.
A council spokesperson has said that the work is progressing 'very well' and that the new offices on the top floor of the Spindles shopping centre are now up and running.
They said: "More offices and our new Access Oldham customer service centre are currently being developed.
“Plus, when B&M move on to the ground floor in the next few weeks the shopping offer will be even better for visitors.
“The new heritage centre is a key part of our plans for Spindles and will be located in the new Markets, Events and Archive space currently being constructed on Parliament Square.
“It will have state-of-the-art facilities and it will attract new and existing users, keen to learn about their family history and also Oldham’s interesting past."
The redevelopment will see the focus shifted from primarily retail units, to allow for a space that the entire community of Oldham can utilise.
Plans outline a new home for Tommyfield Markets, which will relocate to a new split-level market, purpose-built in and around the former TJ Hughes unit.
Also included in the plans are a new event space and public archive.
The council added: "We are looking forward to relaunching the service in its new home and we’ll share more details about when it will open over the coming months."
