Oldham Rugby Union Club is hosting a family fun day, while players from the team will be riding pedal bikes from Blackpool Tower to the club's ground for charity.

The bike ride will be raising funds for Parkinson's UK and Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

However, the family fun day will be held to raise funds solely for Dr Kershaw's, which is a local hospice that relies heavily on donations to provide its services.

The bike ride will see members of the rugby union team pedal their way down from Blackpool Tower all the way back to fun day at the rugby ground, on Byrth Road with both events taking place on Saturday, June 22.

At the ground, the family fun day will be free to enter during the day, but all profits raised from the activities will be donated to Dr Kershaw's Hospice.

Jill Kirkham, Community and Partnerships Lead at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice said: “We are delighted that Dawn Pollitt and Oldham Rugby Union has chosen Dr Kershaw’s to support at their Family Fun Day this Saturday.

"We will be there on the day with our very own hospice mascot, Hartley, meeting families and taking part in the festivities of the day.

"We are looking forward to the event and would like to thank the rugby club for very kindly supporting us as well as everyone who is planning to attend at the weekend, it truly does mean so much to our patients and their families.”

The fun day will start at 12pm and include a bouncy castle, face painting and classic games like tug of war.

The club will also host a BBQ for the day and a DJ will be in attendance to keep the fun flowing all day.

In the evening, from 8pm, the club is holding a live performance from local singer, Andy Lee, which will be ticketed.

Tickets are still available for this and those wanting to purchase some can contact organiser, Dawn Pollitt on 07884 253829.

The tickets are £5 per person and also include a hot meat and potato pie meal at the club.

Last year, the club hosted a charity rugby match, again for Dr Kershaw's Hospice and host these events every year.
