Every week we shine a spotlight on some of the best pubs Oldham has to offer in our Pub of the Week feature.
This week, we spoke to Chris Riley, one half of the team behind award-winning Fox and Pine, in Oldham town centre.
The popular pub has won the Campaign or Real Ale (CAMRA) pub of the year award for Bury, Rochdale and Oldham for three years running, along with a slew of other top awards.
The pub was established in 2020 by married couple, Chris and Michelle Riley and is named after Michelle's Leicester City birthplace (fox) and Oldham Athletics' original team name (Pine Villa).
This week, we have chosen Fox and Pine as our pub of the week.
One of the favourite features of the pub is its ever-changing range of unique craft ales and beers- recently featured additions include 'Cinder Toffee black stout', 'Arise Sir Kevin citra and nectaron pale ale' and 'Burrows Blonde'.
The latter two beers both were sold with every pint seeing contributions to Rob Burrows' motor neurone disease charity.
Fox and Pine also recently announced their newest beer: Sumerian honey and date wheat beer, which is a whopping 8.4 per cent ABV.
The local favourite is also home to the official supporters club of Oldham Rugby League Football Club, 'The Yeds'.
Not only do they have a deep connection with rugby, they also have been known to have been frequented by Oldham Athletic chairman, Frank Rothwell.
Landlord Chris said: "We’re really proud of Oldham and want every pub in Oldham to prosper.
"The council have recently started a night-time economy task force to bring ideas forward to the council to improve the hospitality offer in the town.
"Michelle and I are on the task force as well as a few other pub owners around the town.
"We will be meeting every three weeks to collate ideas, problems etc and share our side of the coin to the council.
"We’re doing a lot of charity stuff at the minute for Rob Burrows MND charity.
"The Yeds walk for Rob will hopefully raise tens of thousands of pounds."
On Sunday, July 28, The Yeds are hosting a sponsored walk from Boundary Park in Oldham to Crown Oil Arena in Rochdale, to raise funds for Rob Burrows MND charity.
Not only do Fox and Pine have a great selection of real beers, ales and ciders, they also serve hearty homecooked food Thursday- Saturday 12pm-8pm.
Situated in a corner space on Greaves Street, the pub is designed with a unique look that keeps with traditional exposed brick and features various interior additions, with the themes of foxes, pines, rugby and football running throughout.
The pub has a strong connection to the community as a whole, and runs and hosts various group meetings from their establishment including two Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (buffs) lodges, The Royal British Legion and the Lancashire Fusiliers.
Most recently, the pub has launched 'Stories Around the Fire', where people are invited to come and share their stories.
They also host a coffee afternoon every Tuesday, 12.30pm-2.30pm for anyone who’s been involved in Rugby League in Oldham- from former professional players, fans of the professional team to all the amateur teams.
The Fox and Pine put on free tea and coffee and attendees discuss anything Rugby from bygone years.
