A family in Kent have restored a memorial bench for a fallen Oldham marine and are now searching for his family.
Tim Reeves, 24, from Oldham, died after a bomb detonated at the Royal Marine Depot in Deal, Kent, on September 22, 1989.
The bomb went off in the Royal Marine School of Music building on the base, and claimed the lives of 12 marines, seriously injuring 20 more.
Mr Reeves’ family had a memorial bench installed in Deal after his death but it began to fall into a state of disrepair after years of tough weather.
The Morris family decided to restore the bench to its former glory, and the town is now searching for the man's surviving family to tell them that their loved one is still remembered and respected to this day.
In a post on an Oldham community group on Facebook, a resident of the town asked if anyone had any information, or knew how to contact the Reeves family.
According to the post, the 24-year-old marine was engaged to ‘Lousie Lowe’, who is thought to have been from Exmouth.
The post also claims his parents were Kenneth and Carol Reeves, and he had two siblings, twins Simon and Janine Reeves.
A user in the comment section says they remember Janine Reeves, and that Carol was a nurse at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
