A man has been jailed for stealing a charity tin from an Oldham town centre shop.

Joseph Dervan, of Curlew Road, Oldham, entered the Max Spielmann shop on Market Place as a trespasser on June 28 last year and stole a charity tin and its contents of an unknown value.

The 36-year-old pleaded guilty to burglary at Tameside Magistrates' Court on June 3 and was jailed for two weeks.

A man has been jailed following a series of crimes carried out in Oldham.

John Collins, of no fixed abode, assaulted a man in Oldham on May 3 and damaged a ceramic bowl belonging to him.

Between May 2 and 12, the 43-year-old attended an address in Dovecote Lane, Oldham, which he was prohibited from doing as part of a restraining order he was issued in January.

At Manchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, June 5, Collins was sentenced having pleaded guilty to criminal damage, assault by beating and harassment - breach of a restraining order.

The court also heard he committed the crimes during a period of suspended sentence.

A man who broke a non-molestation order and assaulted a police officer has avoided jail.

Mike Barlow, of Stottfield, Royton, breached a non-molestation order on March 7 which prohibited which prohibited him from attending the victim's workplace.

While there, the 41-year-old threatened to cause damage to the workplace and on the same day, he assaulted a male police officer.

Barlow had been issued the non-molestation order less than three weeks before and on May 31 at Tameside Magistrates' Court, he was sentenced having pleaded guilty to both offences.

He was given a prison sentence of 12 weeks, suspended for 18 months, and must provide samples to probation officers for 12 months as part of a drug rehabilitation programme.

Barlow was also ordered to attend 40 days of rehabilitation activity requirement and must pay £100 in compensation to the police officer.
