An outdoor clothing and equipment shop has announced it has closed down due to a "lack of support" and "supply chain issues".

Saddleworth Outdoor, based on High Street in Uppermill, has closed down "with immediate effect" following a post shared on the shop's Facebook page on Tuesday (June 4).

In the post, owner Steven Lees said the shop was closing after eight-and-a-half years for a handful of reasons, including the "constant frustration with supply chain issues" which he explained as trying to find "the right stuff at the right price".

Mr Lees continued by saying "a general lack of support from manufacturers for the small independent trader" and the "general downturn" on the high street made it "impossible" for him to continue.

He said these issues meant he was unable to offer customers the service they were used to and deserved.

Mr Lees thanked shoppers for their "support and friendship" over the years, concluding the post by saying a "new challenge awaits".

Dozens of people shared their disappointment at the news in the comments, with one person writing: "I'm really sorry to hear this you've been a great addition to the community and I've had some fabulous purchases from you.

"Wishing you all the best for whatever you do in the future."
